Silver Fox

A mystery centered on a haunted heirloom—a silver fox fur coat that holds the key to a family’s legacy. When Jane, the skeptical inheritor of a remote farmhouse, finds her solitary life troubled by uncanny events, she realizes the house’s history cannot be ignored. Taking matters into her own hands, she calls on Gertrude and her associates, Mary Jane and Jim, to help clear the property of its unsettling spirits.

She returned to the farmhouse for peace. What she found was a presence that refused to be forgotten.

When schoolteacher Jane Martin returns to her grandparents’ rural farmhouse in Prince Edward Island, she expects a quiet summer of repairs and memories. But the house she remembers as warm and familiar has changed—and something is waiting in the shadows. With her loyal friend, Lydia, a handsome neighbour, and the ever-resourceful ghost-hunter Gertrude Harvey by her side, Jane is drawn into a web of whispered secrets, unexplained events, and family history that refuses to stay buried.

Blending old-fashioned storytelling with a contemporary sense of mystery, Silver Fox is a cozy, atmospheric novel full of charm, wit, and a hint of the supernatural. Set against the scenic backdrop of PEI’s red dirt roads and salt air, this is a story about uncovering the past, the weight of legacy, and the curious ways love and memory linger.

Perfect for readers who enjoy gentle ghost stories, chillingly fun mystery, strong female friendships, and a setting that feels as vivid as the characters who inhabit it.

IN MARGARET’S WORDS – THE BACKSTORY

“This story came to me quite by accident. I was attending a mixer in downtown Charlottetown one evening when a young woman told me a tale about her ancestor, a theatre person with a silver fox fur coat. It was stolen from her dressing room and returned to her many years later by a person who noticed her name stitched on a label inside. In the intervening years, the coat had passed through several pairs of hands and had been all over Europe before returning to its rightful owner. Quite an adventure for a fox, even if it was only in the form of a fur coat.”

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

“Rum-running, hidden opera careers, and a missing silver fox fur—what’s not to love? Jane’s discovery of her grandparents’ secrets kept me guessing. The dialogue between Jane and her neighbor Ian is wonderfully natural, making this atmospheric mystery feel grounded even as the spirits start rocking the parlour chairs!”
