Twitch: The Dog Who Loved Carrots

In Twitch the Dog who Loved Carrots, a spirited little Shih Tzu named Twitch discovers an irresistible scent wafting from the neighbor’s yard. Guided by his nose and a love for crunchy treats, Twitch decides that no fence is too high and no ground too hard to stop him from reaching Mr. McGillicuddy’s garden. This charming tale explores the consequences of following one’s impulses and the importance of learning to behave—even when the temptation is a delicious, garden-fresh carrot.

In this delightful debut adventure, readers are introduced to Twitch, a spunky Shih Tzu with a nose for trouble—and a serious craving for carrots! When the tempting scent of fresh vegetables wafts over from Mr. McGillicuddy’s garden next door, Twitch decides that no fence is too high or too sturdy to keep him from his favourite snack.

Through vibrant illustrations and gentle storytelling, children will follow Twitch as he:
• Engineers a Great Escape: Watch Twitch use his wits to dig a “doggy-sized hole” to reach his orange treasures.
• Learns About Consequences: Discover what happens when Dad finds Twitch’s secret stash of wilted carrot tops.
• Discovers the Value of Patience: Follow along as Twitch learns that being a “good dog” comes with its own rewards—straight from the kitchen.

Perfect for fans of curious animals, this story serves as a gentle teaching tool about boundaries, honesty, and the irresistible lure of a healthy snack.

IN MARGARET’S WORDS – THE BACKSTORY

“Twitch was our first little dog, a black Shih Tzu. He was a wonderful little companion full of fun and energy. He loved carrots, the only treat he really enjoyed. Outside of Twitch’s love of carrots, the stories are fictional. He had been surrendered to a volunteer organization called Elderdog, which rehomes healthy dogs whose owners can no longer look after them. Why did I write children’s books? It’s not because I have children or grandchildren, but because I love animals.”

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

“A charming and relatable tale for the 5-to-7-year-old set. Twitch is an irresistible protagonist whose love for crunchy carrots leads to some lighthearted mischief. This story beautifully illustrates that while actions have consequences, a gentle lesson and a tasty reward are the best ways to learn.”
